Balatonfüred, Spa Hotel 2015

BALATONFÜRED, HOTEL SPA 2016
Owing to the healing power of its carbonated thermal springs, Balatonfüred is one of Hungary's oldest and most renowned historic bath towns. For many thousands of years, the spring water breaking through the surface used to be wasted in the reeds surrounding the lakeshore; but for the last three hundred years it has been used for treating cardiovascular diseases and general fatigue. By the second half of the 19th century, the town became a center of social, cultural, and political life - several architecturally remarkable buildings of the period still exist.
The site lies in a tourist-frequented part of Füred, near the lakeshore of Balaton. Urban reconstruction of the last years with high quality renovations and renewals has had many positive effects in the area. There are several historic buildings in the vicinity of the site, including the neighboring Villa Vaszary: an architecturally prominent building rather popular among tourists. The plot itself is also listed as a place of historical importance.
During the process of designing the Hotel Spa, our intention was to integrate the new building appropriately into the unique environment, regarding both proportions/scale and building materials. We used a modern architectural language; the building complex has an individual character due to the undulating walls and their special wood grate paneling.
Meeting the requirements of a modern bath-facility and creating a sustainable and economical complex were both important aspects while planning the functional areas of the building. In addition to the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, the hotel also has a sauna, massage rooms, and treatment tubs - almost every type of natural healing and health preservation procedures are available in the complex.
