BUDAPEST, LOFT CONVERSION 2002
The location is one of the empty attics at Kiss János altábornagy utca in the XII. district of Budapest; the model shows the proposed new roof structure for the conversion of the loft.
The original wooden truss of the roof was in good condition, therefore we decided to preserve the main frame and extend it; after removing the rafters and elevating the eaves with 2meters, a lower pitched roof can be restored. The wooden flooring is embedded between the tie beams, resulting in an inlaid surface with a unique pattern.
Eventually, the transformation of the roof structure could not be realized because the allowed construction parameters of the block have already been exceeded: the loft conversion had to be realized within the original roof outline.
