The site’s location is at a frequented point of the city with a unique atmosphere given by century old summer villas. The surrounding properties have the typical character of the holiday houses around lake Balaton where villas stand alone in the middle of a fairly big garden and the facades are covered with (ornate) lacy wooden details.
During the design process we aimed to solve the building's solid integration into the area's architectural image, by setting the average building mass and layout as starting points of the design. The idea finally led us to use a central symmetric building with four main building sections taking in the necessary functions.
The lacy ornate facades redefine the wooden details on the local villas.
The building transforms from a closed mass to a almost entirely open space for the summer creating a pleasing atmosphere to the place.
