Siófok, Restaurant 2007

SIÓFOK, RESTAURANT 2007
The site is located in a local heritage district of Siófok; the ambience of the area is characterized by well maintained, century-old villas. The buildings, arranged along a promenade lined with platan trees, usually stand in the middle of a relatively large garden; their façade is decorated with lacy, pierced wooden details.
The subtle integration of the new building into the surrounding architectural environment was an important aspect during the design process. With respect to the bulk, proportions, and layout of the nearby buildings, we developed a symmetrically centered structure, incorporating the various hospitality functions in four wings.
The restaurant is open seasonally; the closed bulk of the winter months can be transformed into an open space in the summertime by opening the sidewalls and pergolas.
The floral ornament (masonry and cladding) on the façade of the building is a reformulation of the wooden lacy patterns on the surrounding villas.
